Aquila pennata – Circaetus gallicus
Kithira island is “famous” for the spring and autumn bird migration. This island in addition with Antikithira and Crete works as a funnel where birds can avoid the Mediterranean Sea and save power for the final passage from south Crete, from where no land can meet to north Africa. The most spectacular is the Raptors migration. Hundreds of Honey Buzzards and several other Raptor species soar over the island with the help of the thermals from 15/8 to the end of September.
This stooping pale morph Booted Eagle (Γερακαετός) entered by mistake in a Buzzard ‘s territory.
The presence of the Snake Eagle (Short Toed Eagle – Φιδαετός) was daily.
