Loxia curvirostra

Although a common bird in conifer forests, Common Crossbill (Σταυρομύτης) is not an easy species to photograph. After several photos in their habitat, with bad light conditions, i managed a descent shot in an unexpected place, the “artificial” human habitat, of the Elatia forest village.
The male of Common Crossbill, in difference with all i know, has variable colors, from brick red to greyish green. If someone knows the reasons why existing this variety in males color …
