Tawny pipit was a common species on alpine fields of both mountains & gave us some nice opportunities for photos.

Yellow-billed Chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus – Κιτρινικαλιακούδα) were abundant on Giona.

Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe – Σταχτοπετρόκλης) was the most abundant species on both mountains.

Wood Lark (Lullula arborea – Δενδροσταρήθρα).

Blue Rock-thrush (Monticola solitarius – Γαλαζοκότσυφας)

Several breeding Ortolan Buntings were on both mountain plateaus. A seed eating species enriches its diet with insects during breeding season.

A daily excursion at 18th of June to mount Giona forests & plateaus & an additional one to mount Parnassos the next morning, was very interesting in terms of birdwatching & bird photography. This is the first post of a series related with this weekend. The distribution of the Red backed shrike started from the lower altitudes until the alpine plateaus.

Rueppell’s Warbler is one of the warbler breeding species at Ymmitos mount.
It’s distribution is very limited in SE Europe, Middle East & NE Africa.
