Μια βόλτα στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Πάρνηθας στην Δ, ΒΔ πλευρά της μέχρι το οροπέδιο των Σκούρτων πάντα έχει σημαντικό ορνιθολογικό ενδιαφέρον ακόμη & αυτή την στείρα εποχή. Η βόλτα ακροβατούσε μεταξύ όριων IBA, καμμένων & άκαυτων, αγροτοδασικής & καθαρά δασικής έκτασης. Κορυφαία παρατήρηση μάλλον τα 2 Falco Eleonorae, που τέτοια εποχή δεν έχουν ακόμη φωλιάσει & αυτό τους επιτρέπει να περιπλανώνται για διατροφή ακόμη & βαθειά στην ενδοχώρα (π.χ Πίνδος). Οι Lanius minor ήταν & τώρα (21/6) εκεί & ίσως αυτό να είναι τελικά ένδειξη φωλιάσματος.

Last Saturday we went for a short trip to the north-northwest edge of the Parnitha range. This area includes the Skourta plateau which has always great ornithological interest. The trip took place on the borderline of the IBA (Important Bird Area). For once more we couldn’t find the trigger species Emberiza caesia but we were happy to watch two Falco Eleonorae foraging for insects. This falcon breeds later than any other species in order to feed the young with the migrating small birds. Before breeding they can be found foraging anywhere , even deep inland (eg the Pindos ridge). Two Lanius minor individuals were also there and their existence in the mid of june could be proof of breeding.
But now it is The Season of the Little Owl !
